Smidge’s Hot Seats for the Upcoming NFL Season: Coach Edition
  • Zac Taylor should’ve been fired last year. Since playing the Super Bowl and making the AFC Championship in ’22, the Bengals haven’t been the same. Having missed the playoffs three years straight and not doing much of anything to help Joe Burrow or the defense, it’s time to move on.
  • Shane Steichen is depending heavily upon Danny Dimes, and that’s not the best position to be in. Trading two first-round picks for Sauce, then him immediately having a season-ending injury, isn’t helping his case either. Yes, they needed help, but he was not worth that. If the Colts have another complete come apart like last year, I believe Steichen will be gone.
  • Kevin O’Connell could be feeling the heat. Personally, I think he stays, but when Kyler Murray and “nine” are your quarterbacks, you have to at least put the wood under his seat.
  • Kyle Shanahan has been so close but so far away for a long time. He has proved he can win games except when he needs to. I don’t think he gets fired, but he shouldn’t feel too comfortable.
  • Todd Bowles is wasting the Bucs. They have a great defense and a good enough offense to make a deep run. He’s the definition of mediocre. Letting Liam Coen leave the building and with the NFC South somewhat on the rise, he should get the box for his office ready.
  • According to my source for the Eagles (my brother-in-law), Nick Sirianni could be on his way out if the Eagles have a down year or don’t at least make the NFC Championship. Personally, I think Sirianni is a clown who doesn’t know how to lead a team.
  • Mike Vrabel, just because he can’t keep it in his pants.
