Smidge’s Hot Seats for the Upcoming NFL Season: Player Edition

With the season so close but also so far away, we’re looking for any way to talk football. It’s time to take a look at a handful of players I think should be feeling their chair get a little warmer this season.

  • Even if he has a couple of years left on his rookie contract, C.J. Stroud should be feeling the pressure. After throwing four interceptions against the Patriots in the divisional round, Stroud needs to take a long look in the mirror. As bad as I hate to say it, the Texans are good. If Stroud can’t even be decent when the team needs him, the Texans could be looking into bringing a vet in to put a little pressure.
  • Michael Penix Jr. has been decent at best, but he’s falling short. I was surprised when the Falcons selected him 8th overall after giving Kirk a 100 million dollar contract. They saw something but it’s not translating. Injuries were a problem for Penix in college and they continue to be. With the addition of Tua, the Falcons are showing the faith they don’t have in Penix.
  • Xavier Legette has been very underwhelming. He has all the tools you want in a wide receiver, they just haven’t translated to the NFL. After drafting McMillan, the emergence of Coker and taking Brazzell in the third round, Legette could be on his way out of Carolina.
  • Another Panther who could be on his way out is Bryce Young. After not picking up his fifth-year option, the Panthers are putting Young’s future in his own hands. After trading Moore, two firsts and two seconds to the Bears for Young, it’s time for him to prove he was worth it. (He wasn’t)

The entirety of the Jets should be feeling the heat this season. There are too many players to specify which one should be on this list. With Geno at the helm and a defense that had ZERO interceptions last season, the Jets could be so bad that it’s entertaining.
