The DAWGS Roll the Tide at Home

The Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide clashed in a brutal, physical matchup in Tuscaloosa.

Offense:

Stockton was throwing darts into tight windows, Phillips Jr. took 17 carries for more than 100 yards, and we saw Jaden Reddell emerge as the leading receiver for the Dawgs.

Gunner Stockton went on to have an 82% completion percentage and one interception, as well as the only rushing touchdown on the day.
In the first quarter, we saw a stalemate on both sides of the ball that ended with a Woodring field goal to put the Dawgs up 3–0.

London Humphries reeled in the first touchdown of the day on a 20-yard pass from Stockton. The Dawgs wouldn’t score again until the 3rd Quarter, with Stockton’s legs.

Several penalties on the offensive line, paired with an interception and several 3-and-outs, set the Dawgs back. Georgia played a physical game in the trenches that was ultimately cemented by a dot thrown by Stockton to Williams for 17 yards on a 3rd and 8, which helped seal the close win against Alabama.

Defense:

Georgia had several miscues that led to Alabama taking the lead before the end of the first half. Keelon Russell threw a 22-yard pass to Pritchett that would be his sole touchdown pass of the game. Alabama then cooked up a 12-play drive before the end of the first half and punched the ball in on the goal line for the lead.
Russell coughed up a fumble on Alabama’s first drive of the game. The Georgia defense managed to record 4 sacks and 6 tackles for a loss, one of which came at a pivotal moment in the 4th Quarter, when Russell was sacked for a 9-yard loss and put Alabama out of field goal range on a 4th and 19.
The Bulldogs allowed 185 yards through the air and 161 on the ground in this tough matchup.

Special Teams:
Peyton Woodring went 2 for 3 on field goals for the night, uncharacteristically missing a 39-yarder in the 4th Quarter.

Bottom Line:

Both of these teams clashed hard in the trenches and in every phase of the game. Alabama saw its star receiver, Ryan Coleman-Williams, leave the game after being banged up, and Georgia star CB KJ Bolden would be declared inactive against Auburn after the physicality he saw in this game as well. The Dawgs were definitely missing RBs Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens, but Dwight Phillips Jr. and Bo Walker toted the rock as if they were the team’s starters.

Alabama failed to convert on several of Georgia’s 3-and-out situations, and that was the key that led to the UGA win. There were several controversial and missed penalty calls (ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL) that impacted both teams’ scores at the end of the game. In the end, Georgia stayed strong on the defensive side of the ball and kept Alabama out of field goal range. After Gunner Stockton’s stellar 17-yard pass to Williams on 3rd and 8 for a 1st down, Alabama’s Lee Jr. would solidify the win once he was flagged for a 15-yard personal foul that allowed the Dawgs to kneel it out.
In the end, the Georgia Bulldogs dominated the Crimson Tide in every baseline statistical category, including penalties, in a close Week 6 win. It was a hard-fought win that looked worse on screen than it did on paper, but a win nonetheless.
